Jacksonville aldermen and citizens have questioned the city’s decision to hire a man with a misdemeanor criminal conviction as its new police chief. Since the production company knew that they would not be able to complete the task in time, they hired a contractor to come in and help them with some of the jobs, to speed the process up. The Independent Contractors Act 2006 in conjunction with the Fair Work Act 2009 protects the rights and entitlements of independent contractors.
Denied License – If a contractor has violated the law by contracting prior to obtaining a license, see T.C.A. 62-6-120 for penalties. Employees and independent contractors can request assistance from the Fair Work Ombudsman if they feel their rights have been contravened.
